Correction (6)
By chastisement man is made more attentive unto God. In prosperity the world makes such a noise in a man's ears that God cannot be heard. "He speaks indeed once and twice" again and again very often, "yet man perceives it not." He is so busy in the crowd of worldly affairs that God is not heeded.
Correction is only seen as "judgement" to those who still love their sin.
It is said of Sir Anthony Cope, an English Protestant, that he shamed no one as much as himself in his family prayers. He desired ministers not to favor his faults, but to tell him and spare him not.Triumphing Over Sinful Fear, 102
I wish that I may be so much my own friend, as to esteem a bitter admonition better than the sweetest flattery, and never quarrel at any for waking me out of my spiritual lethary.
Admonition is a lion which few dare come near, for fear it will tear them in pieces.
