When thou prayest, rather let thy heart be without words than thy words without a heart. Prayer will make a man to cease from sin, or sin will entice a man to cease from prayer.
Some men forget to pray, others forget what they have prayed, and others forget that they have prayed. So little of their hearts is in duty and so little impression of duty is in their hearts, that all comes to nothing.
He can be no true friend to thee that is a friend to thy faults, and thou canst be no friend to thyself if thou be an enemy to him that tells thee of thy faults. Wilt thou like him the worse that would have thee be better?
